Assessment Performed: Summer 2025
Riverside Park occupies a cherished location at the corner of Main and River Streets, right along the shore of Lake Flower in downtown Saranac Lake. This Park is a dynamic event space and home to the Saranac Lake Farmers Market in summer months, and a central venue for Music on the Green, a free Wednesday evening summer concert series featuring folk, jazz, blues, and indie performers. Highlights include a bandshell located lakeside, used for concerts and seasonal festivals like the Winter Carnival, which floods the park with activity during February, and convenient docks where those who arrive by boat can disembark and enjoy Saranac Lake’s downtown area.
The bandshell recently received a new front deck area, with steps on both sides, and a large single step-up access in front. None of the step areas have handrails. As new construction, the stage area extension was required to be made ADA/ABA compliant, yet those with mobility challenges may not be able to make it up the steps, and wheelchair users cannot access the stage area at all.
Accessible porta-potty is to the south (left) and somewhat behind the bandshell, but there is no signage indicating its presence.
There is a 5″ gap between the approach sidewalk and the dock, and the dock is 47″ wide, but there is no edge protection. The steps to the left of the dock entrance are steep and the concrete is cracked. Use caution in this area.
