Village of Saranac Lake
ADA Self-Evaluation Assessment Completed

Accessible Adirondack Tourism is pleased to announce that we have completed the ADA assessment for all 12 of the Village of Saranac Lake’s parks. The final document is 160 pages in length, includes 189 images, contains 19,644 words, and features 12 video links documenting a wheelchair user navigating the Riverwalk. Together, these elements provide a comprehensive evaluation of accessibility within the Village. If you want to take a look at it you can download it from our website. Videos can be downloaded by clicking on the links within the Assessment document, or by going to the Saranac Lake Riverwalk page on this website. The project supports both community accessibility and regional tourism by ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beauty, culture, and hospitality the Adirondacks have to offer. We applaud the Village of Saranac Lake for it’s openness to the assessment, and for ensuring people with disabilities can make informed choices on where to visit.

Welcome

You can search with confidence for accessible locations throughout the Adirodack region. How we rate places

Every place is visited and assessed by Accessible Adirondack Tourism and rated out of 5 trees.

  • Accessible entrance, wheelchair accessible interior, accessible restroom and accessible website: 1 point each.
  • Braille signs and menus: 1/2 point. Accessible social media: 1/4 point. Accessibility extras named in the description, such as accessible parking or an elevator: 1/4 point.
  • A feature that is only partly available earns half its points.
  • Not Accessible means the place has the feature, but it is not accessible. Not Available means the place does not have it. Neither earns points.
  • Anything Not Applicable is left out, so it never counts against a place. The total is scaled to 5 and rounded to the nearest half tree.
  • A website or social media account counts as accessible only when it passes a WAVE scan with no errors, no contrast errors and no alerts.
